Privacy Policy for Cheaper Fuel
1. Who We Are
This Privacy Policy describes how the Cheaper Fuel mobile app ("Cheaper Fuel", "we", "us") processes information when you use the app. Cheaper Fuel helps users find nearby UK fuel prices and navigate to stations.
Publisher contact details should be kept current in this file before store release.
2. Information We Process
- Device location (precise/approximate): If you grant location permission, the app reads device coordinates to show nearby stations.
- Manual location input: If you type a postcode/city, that input is used to resolve coordinates for search.
- Search and filter data: Coordinates, radius, fuel type, sort mode, max price and stale-data toggle are sent in station search requests.
- Basic technical request data: API providers may receive IP address, user agent, and request timestamps as part of normal internet traffic.
3. Data Stored On Your Device
The app stores the following locally on your device using Shared Preferences:
- Onboarding completion state.
- Saved stations.
- Nearby search radius and stale-price preference.
- Banned stations and banned network keys.
These items are stored locally and are not synced to an account by the app.
4. Fuel Price Data Sources and Calls
Cheaper Fuel uses a two-step runtime strategy for fuel prices:
- Primary source: Configured backend API (for example
/v1/fuel-types,/v1/data-status,/v1/stations/nearby,/v1/stations/{id}). - Fallback source: UK Government Fuel Finder CSV feed via:
- https://www.developer.fuel-finder.service.gov.uk/internal/v1.0.2/csv/generate-presigned-url (returns a temporary redirect URL for CSV download).
If both sources are unavailable, the app shows an unavailable/error state instead of synthetic mock fuel data.
5. Postcode Resolution Service
When GPS location is not used and you provide a postcode/outcode, the app calls Postcodes.io endpoints such as:
6. Third-Party Services
The app may interact with third parties to provide features:
- Google Maps SDK (map display).
- Postcodes.io (postcode to coordinate lookup).
- Google Maps, Apple Maps, and Waze (opened externally when you tap navigation actions).
- Government Fuel Finder developer service (CSV fallback retrieval).
When you open external navigation apps, their own privacy policies apply.
7. How We Use Information
- To show nearby fuel stations and prices.
- To apply your selected filters and preferences.
- To provide map view and navigation handoff.
- To maintain app functionality and troubleshoot service availability.
8. Data Sharing and Selling
We do not sell personal data through Cheaper Fuel. Data is shared only as needed to run requested features (for example, postcode lookup, station search APIs, map rendering, and external navigation launch).
9. Retention
- Local app preferences persist on your device until you clear app data, remove specific saved/banned items, or uninstall the app.
- Network-side request logs (if any) depend on the infrastructure/operator of the configured API endpoints and third-party services.
10. Security
We use standard platform/network controls and depend on the security practices of the underlying operating system and service providers. No method of transmission or storage is completely risk-free.
11. Children
Cheaper Fuel is not directed to children under 13 and does not intentionally collect personal information from children.
12. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction (including UK GDPR), you may have rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or object to certain processing. You can also withdraw location permission via your device settings at any time.
13. Contact
